Going out into the garden during the evening with the torch has become a regular thing now and tonight whilst checking out the pond I got a nice surprise. If you've been out in the garden of an evening you'll know it is a very quiet place and you get to hear all sorts of noises. Most common is the sound of the snails in the pond as they come to the surface but tonight I could hear something moving nearby the pond.
Keen to investigate I scanned the surrounding area with my torch and quickly discovered the noise source, an Hedgehog. Not a such big surprise as I've seen it before in the garden but nevertheless I called out the Wife to show her our garden visitor before we both went back indoors.
Later I was out again for one final look in on the pond and as I shone the torch one more time in the area where the hedgehog had been earlier, I got another surprise, two hedgehogs! Amazing.
My cat seemed quite excited too so I took him back indoors for half an hour to give the hedgehogs time to move along but I'll have to go back out for one final time in a bit to check they haven't fallen into the ponds.
This is fabulous! Lucky, lucky you. I've been waiting eight years to see a hoggy in our garden and finally did a few weeks back when Ted alerted me to its presence :o)
ReplyDeleteAye, it's always nice to get these little creatures in the garden. Hope you'll share a photo of your visitor on your blog soon.

Cheers DaveyMan.
DeleteHow wonderful, two in one night, we have made little holes in our fence so they can get in and out of the garden..

It was wonderful, I've seen one before but it was a total surprise to find two. I might look into building them a hedgehog home now.
