During the last couple of weeks,
late each evening I've been going out
to my pond and spending a little time
watching the froglets leaving.
Last night I decided to take
some photos of their departure.
I can't believe just how many
little froglets have made it to
this stage and are now taking
their first leap into the unknown.
There are still some tadpoles left,
but nearly all have grown limbs now.
four little froglets in this shot
two froglets sheltering in
a damp nook and cranny
time to move on
It's good to see they have made it this far.
ReplyDeleteThanks Adrian.
DeleteThey will be turning up in dark corners of your garden for years to come!
ReplyDeleteThat's what my Dad keeps telling me Simon.
DeleteHow wonderful Ian. You must be so pleased at how well the pond is working. It just shows what a difference having water in your garden makes to the wildlife. Well done :o)
ReplyDeleteThanks CT. Yes I'm pleased to see that they have made it to froglets and have started leaving the pond.
DeleteI'm so pleased you have managed to photograph some as they are so cute, they are now out in the big bad world I wish them well. There should be a law pasted were we all have to have a small pond, what a difference it would make...

Aren't they just Amanda. Fingers crossed they survive the next year. Hopefully there is enough cover in the garden for them to stay safe.
DeleteReally pleased to see that they survived. They are so cute at this stage. I was pleased to see one under a hydrangea yesterday. It had grown from about 1cm to about 2cm! I wonder how long it takes them to get to adult size?
ReplyDeleteI've often how long it takes them to get to adult size too. Some froglets have already doubled in size in the space of a week or so.
DeleteI am so glad you managed to get some photos - they are so tiny and cute. I sometimes find some lurking in our garden in the mini wildflower meadow. I wish them luck as they start their new lives.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ragged Robin.
